Are you going to tie the knot soon? Share the great news with your friends and loved ones who won’t be attending your wedding with wedding announcements. A great way to personalize your wedding announcements is by adding photos of you and your partner during the wedding, such as during your first kiss.
If everyone you want to invite to your wedding will able to attend, it’s not necessary to send out wedding announcements. Couples who have small or destination weddings or who have a large extended family and many friends and colleagues may want to send announcements out so everyone knows they tied the knot. However, some people do view announcements as solicitations for gifts. If you receive gifts after sending out announcements, make sure to send out a thank you card as soon as possible.
Wedding announcements are worded similarly to wedding invitations. The only difference with announcements is that the wedding has already taken place. Wording will be different based on who sends out the announcement. Sometimes the parents send the announcements out whereas sometimes couples themselves send them out.
Here is an example of the wording of a formal wedding announcement sent out by parents:
Mr. & Mrs. John Doe Smith
have the honor of
announcing the marriage of their daughter
Mary Jane
to
Mr. John Patrick Connor
Saturday, the tenth of May
two thousand and nine
Seattle, Washington
Here is an example of the wording of a wedding announcement sent out by a couple:
Mary Jane Gallagher
and
John Patrick Connor
announce their marriage
Saturday, the tenth of May
You can have your announcements sent out on the morning of your wedding or even the night before. Just don’t send your announcements out too early because they are intended to announce an event that has already taken place.
Wedding announcements can be sent to people who did not receive an invitation to your wedding. For example, friends who live too far away to attend your wedding could receive an announcement instead of an invitation. A recipient of an announcement is not required by etiquette to acknowledge that they did, but they may send a brief card expressing their best wishes or a gift.
Photo wedding announcements allow you to announce the special event in style. You can customize your announcements with photos of the most memorable parts of your wedding. Traditionally, announcements are sent out on the day of the wedding or the night before but this is non necessary and probably not an option if you want to use photos taken by your wedding photographer. If you hire a professional photographer, it will take him/her time to edit your photos and deliver them to you. If this is the case, you can wait a little while to send your announcements out. Do send them out as soon as possible, however, to avoid disappointing your friends and family who live far away from you.
If you supplied your guests with cameras during the wedding, you can use some of the candid shots from those cameras for your announcements. The disadvantage to doing this is that the photos may not be as good of quality as the ones taken by your photographer. You can also use an engagement photo instead of a wedding photo.
